What is it ? Well, a Codec is something that you install to use a certain type of video file, such as a codec is needed to play DVD's on your computer. jmk396, Dec 14, 2008 jmk396, Dec 14, 2008 #1 Dec 15, 2008 #2 SmokeRngs [H]ard|DCer of the Month - April 2008 Messages: 16,192 Joined: Aug 9, 2001 I've had no trouble Also, does the Haali Media Splitter work?
Why shouldn't I use Media Player? As usual, TIA. unregmp2.exe /SwapTo: 64, or something) then it still doesn't work. Just get the x86 versions.
I do kind-of like Media Player for some reason so it would still be nice to play the option of playing the media files back in that.Click to expand... A:ffdshow.. because it plays all this shit natively, even now in pre-beta stage it plays most everything out there, even QuickTime files, natively... This setup plays anything and everything I throw at it.

Great. I've been told that my codecs are messed up.
I really appriciate the help. http://brainybooks.net/vista-x64/vista-x64-error-help-please.html System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows Vista x64 Ultimate CPU AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Motherboard ASUS MB-M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi Memory 2 x A-Data 2GB DDR2-800 Graphics Card ASUS ATI Radeon HD Criccio you are right the OP never said he wanted to...but why would you not want to? You can use any DirectShow capable media player using MPC-HC's filters, but you'd have to download the MPC-HC standalone filters and register the files.
Also if you check around on htpc forums like GreenButton, and AVSforum this is what they recommend. But I like windows 7 much more than I like XP or vista so going back to vista is out of question. ffdshow can't decode DTS-HD tracks, only the DTS core, and even then, MPC-HC has a build in DTS decoder. http://brainybooks.net/vista-x64/vista-x64-install-question.html jmk396 said: ↑ It looks like MPC-HC doesn't decode XviD so I would need ffdshow x64 if I went that route.Click to expand...

Before you install or delete anything, make a system restore point, so that any problems could be resolved, by going back to an earlier time. jmk396 said: ↑ 2) Do I even need ffdshow at all with MPC-HC? What is it ? The audio is perfect, but the vid is messed up.
