This machine uses different hardware from the other machine on which I'm trying to get Win 8 to work. I haven't seen a nic that couldn't do WOL in probably 10 years. Running Windows 8.1 - have also disabled Fast Startup . it says the adaptor is working normally, but when I plug in an ethernet cable is says the cable is not plugged in.
The strange part is that as soon as the other Windows 7 laptop is disconnected from the network, Windows 8 internet start working fine. A quick check of the Dell Website (http://support.euro.dell.com/uk/en/filelib/system.asp?sid=WRK_PNT_P4_530&m=l&p=1) shows the A10 is the latest BIOS version. Do the Dell Laptops with pre-installed Windows 8 don't have the Local Group Policy Editor?
If you haven't tried the WOL-enabled drivers from Dell, give them a shot - if they change the PROM settings to enable Wake-on-LAN you might find that updating the drivers afterward I have gone thru all the various functions that the OS offers, and the result is that the dns resolver is not working.
